How to Travel the World Without Spending a Fortune!

Have you ever wanted to get out and explore far-flung corners of the planet, but struggled to find the funds? Or perhaps money isn’t an issue but you simply wouldn’t know where to start! Well, here are a couple suggestions to get you started – and whether you decide to work on an organic farm in Spain, or even volunteer in Guatemala – traveling is sure to be a decision that you never regret!

Work Abroad

There are some great schemes on offer for those looking to subsidise their travel by working as they go. One popular initiative is known as ‘WWOOFing’. The acronym comes from ‘Willing Workers On Organic Farms’, and if you take this option you will receive a wage for helping to run organic, eco-friendly farming projects, in any one of the countless participating countries. This is a good option as it awards you spending money in addition to food and lodge, and while the work can sometimes be hard, it’s always good to know that you’ve been supporting an ethical trade in eco-friendly produce.

Volunteer Work

One of the most popular ways of seeing the world, is to sign up for volunteering. There are countries all around the world which are in desperate need of enthusiastic volunteer workers… the work varies dramatically, as well. You could sign up to help save bird populations from oil slicks in the Middle East, or perhaps even volunteer in Costa Rica – here you may find yourself teaching, or help getting aid to people dying of starvation. No matter which project you decide to go with though, volunteering is a great way to immerse yourself completely in a foreign culture, and is also one of the most rewarding life experiences you may ever have.
